Airline Ticket for Child ~ discounts are offered for children under 12 Airline Ticket for Child Infant ~ infants pay 10% of the ticket price ~ you can request a specially designed travel cot or infant seat ( try booking these early as lots of popular flights tend to be full with children too - on one flight we took there were families flying with babies and not enough seats-- that can be tough on a 6 hour flight) | ~ British Airways offers a service for children travelling unaccompanied called Skyflyer Solo. ~On British Airways flights children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a person of 16 years of age or above. The person accompanying the child can be a family member or an appointed person, if not, the child must be registered as an unaccompanied minor. ~ By registering as an unaccompanied minor, your child can travel from age five up to 12 years on a single sector flight. If the journey involves an onward transfer on the same or to another British Airways flight, they must be at least six years old. The unaccompanied minor service must be requested at the time of booking. |
| At the Airport |
| British Airways Airline Review - British airways invites families flying with small children to board the aircraft first ~ TIP: Maya and I find boarding the aircraft first useful on short haul flights , but with long haul flights we wait until the whole plane has boarded and she can always run around stretching her legs til the last minute, rather then being squeezed up for another extra 45 minutes while everybody went on board. ~There might be a problem with not a lot of overhead luggage space being left but as most our travel luggage are travel games for maya they need to be close at hand anyway and we store them under the seat infront of us so not a problem for us ~ At some airports British Airways offers early check-in from 6pm the day before you travel ~ that might be an option if you have lots of luggage and small kids and are close to the airport ie when booking a hotel to stay over ~ check with the airport direct ( on our last flight to Germany from Gatwick airport we found that they had an early check in and it was lovely to stroll and explore the airport rather than struggling with luggage in tow |

| Strollers and Buggies British Airways Airline Review ~ British airways allows small foldable strollers and buggies on the aircraft, but it is sometimes at the discretion of the purser of each flight especially when it is full ~ make sure your stroller is small, folded neatly and you sometimes also get away with storing it in the pursers cabin if you ask nicely- they sometimes can hand it you straight away after leaving the airport- a real bonus saving you to struggle til baggage reclaim with kids and luggage in tow ~ if you want to board with a stroller make use of the families board aircraft first option ~ 3 wheeler buggies are too large to go to through the aircraft chute and have to be checked in Food British Airways Airline Review ~ When travelling on flights of over 1 hour parents can pre-book children's meals up to 24 hours before departure # the aim is to have fun filled food trays that kids love to eat ~ they also have a family meal option which often includes pasta ~ British Airways has a "Feed Kids First " Policy where they hope that parents can enjoy their meal after the kids has settled ( maya loves eating and I find when she has a meal with us she is entertained enough by eating and we rather get served together otherwise she is ready to play whilst I still am eating -- but each family travel routine is different :-) ~ for flying with babies British Airways offers food and bottle warming facilities Entertainment British Airways Airline Review ~ Once settled kids will be offered r supersonic rocket booted, power haired Skyflyer activity packs ~ Skyflyers activity packs* are available on flights over 3 hours ~ they contain a fun backpack for children aged 3 to 5 years and funky shoulder pack for children aged 6 to 12 years inclusive ~ in it you will find cuddly Skyflyers toys & sticker books to electronic games and Top Trumps. ~ Skyflyers activity books are available on all shorthaul flights over 1 hour. This is a airtravel themed coloring /puzzle /quiz type book but including a little bit for everybody - Maya loved the funky cartoons ~On longhaul flights British Airways offers on screen entertainment ~ for kids there a choices from Disney and Cartoon Network together with family blockbuster movies, ~ there is a parental lock to enable you to block viewing of any unsuitable material on other channels. In thir World Traveller Plus categories and Club World and First cabins, they offer a selection of games on the majority of routes, which you can play using a handheld games console, including kids games such as 'Tic-Tac-Toe' and 'Twins Cafe'. | Flying alone for the first time can be quite an expereince for a child ~ It is recommended that the first alone flight is a short one to see wheter your child is suited to the task at hand ~ Read our Tips for flying alone , they might helop you decide whether a kid flying alone is an option for you |
